Intro to Angel Investing
This module provides an overview of angel investing, introducing participants to the role of angel investors in the startup ecosystem. It covers key concepts such as risk and return profiles, portfolio diversification, and the different stages of startup investment. By the end of the module, participants will understand the importance of angel investing in fostering innovation and economic growth, as well as how to approach their first investment with a long-term strategy.
Startup Investing Legal
In this module, participants will explore the legal framework surrounding startup investments. Topics include understanding the different types of investment agreements, equity structures, and the rights of investors and founders. Additionally, participants will learn about the importance of intellectual property protection, compliance with local regulations, and how to navigate the complexities of legal due diligence.
CLA in-depth
This session dives deep into the structure and mechanics of Convertible Loan Agreements (CLAs), a popular form of early-stage investment. Participants will learn how CLAs convert into equity, the advantages and disadvantages of using this instrument, and key negotiation points. This module is designed to equip angel investors with the knowledge to effectively use CLAs in their startup investments.
Startup screening
In this module, participants will gain insight into the process of evaluating and selecting startups for investment. They will learn about key criteria such as founder strength, market potential, competitive landscape, and scalability. The focus will be on developing a structured approach to screening startups, minimizing risks, and identifying high-potential opportunities.
Valuations
Understanding how to value early-stage startups is critical for angel investors. This module introduces different valuation methods, including pre-money and post-money valuation concepts, market comparables, and the venture capital method. Participants will leave with practical tools to assess the value of startups at various stages of growth and negotiate better terms.
Due Diligence
This module covers the due diligence process, a crucial step before making any investment. Participants will learn about assessing the financial health of a startup, evaluating legal and operational risks, and examining the market and competitive landscape. Syndication
Angel investors often pool their resources to invest as a group in a process called syndication. This module explains how syndication works, its benefits, and the logistics of forming and participating in syndicate groups. Participants will also learn about leadership roles within syndicates and the importance of aligning goals among co-investors.
Post-investment relations
Investing in a startup is just the beginning. This module focuses on how angel investors can add value post-investment through mentorship, strategic guidance, and leveraging their networks. Participants will learn best practices for maintaining productive relationships with founders, monitoring progress, and managing expectations to help startups succeed.
Exits
The final module covers the different types of exits, such as acquisitions, Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), or secondary sales, and how angel investors can realize returns on their investments. Participants will gain an understanding of the timeline to exits, the various exit strategies, and how to prepare for and negotiate a successful exit that maximizes their returns.
